Setup Instructions

Learn how to properly install your lighting kit and connect to Amazon Alexa. Before getting started, be sure to read and review your user guide.

Getting Started

Read and review all warnings, specifications, and details in your user guide.
Download the latest version of the Amazon Alexa app on your mobile device.
Get familiar with all of the parts and components in your kit.
Plan your layout and configuration (see page 5 of your user guide for more details.)

How to Install Your Lights

Mount the control box in the desired location.
Slide two bar mounting clips onto each light bar.
Remove the adhesive backing from the mounting clips and using the provided spacer, mount the light bars and hold in place for 10 seconds.
Connect the control box to the first light bar, and the light bars to each other, using jumper wires.
Connect the AC adapter cord to the control box.
Route and hide wires with wire clips and zip ties.
Plug in the AC adapter to the power source.

Connecting to Amazon Alexa

After plugging in your lights, the red Wi-Fi light on your control box should be blinking. Once it starts blinking, you will have five minutes to complete the connection.

If you are already an Amazon Alexa user, your Wi-Fi-connected Alexa-enabled device or Amazon Alexa app may automatically detect your lights for you. If you are not an existing user or your lights weren't automatically detected, follow the steps below.

Open the Amazon Alexa app
Select "Devices" and click the plus (+) button to "Add Device"
Select "Light" and choose "Black+Decker"
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your setup

How to Use Your Lights

You can control your lights using voice commands, the Amazon Alexa app, and with buttons located on the control box. Plus, using the native functionality of the Amazon Alexa eco-system, you can create routines, group with other smart devices, and more.

List of Controls

Power: Turn your lights on and off.
Color Tuning: You can adjust the color temperature of your lights to a soft white (3000K), white (4000K), and daylight white (5000K).
Dimming: Adjust the brightness of your lights from 10%-100% or using the 10 preset levels.
Nightlight Mode: This preset mode dims your lights to 30% and enables a five-hour timer that automatically turns your lights off.

Creating and Using Groups

Use Amazon Alexa groups to pair and control smart devices together. You can group together multiple sets of under cabinet lights in a dedicated group and add your lights to a room (e.g., "Kitchen") with other devices (e.g., coffee maker, overhead lights). Groups can be created and controlled in the Amazon Alexa app and added to any type of routine.

Creating and Using Routines

Amazon Alexa routines are a convenient way to streamline and customize your day. Tie single or multiple actions into a voice command or automate actions based on schedules, location, and more. All of under cabinet lighting controls can be added to routines using the Amazon Alexa app. Here are some of our favorite ways to use them!

Use a schedule-based routine to enable nightlight mode at the same time each night.
Create the voice command, "Alexa, good morning" that turns on your lights to warm white and 30% brightness.
Use a location-based routine that turns your lights on when you arrive home

Here are some of the questions we get the most. If you don't see your question listed, please reach out.

Where is my Wi-Fi light?

The Wi-Fi light is located on the control box. When in various modes, the light is a red color.

The Wi-Fi light is either blinking red, solid red, or off. What do each of these mean?

Blinking Red: You are in pairing mode, which lasts for five minutes. In this mode, you can connect to Amazon Alexa.
Solid Red: There is no internet connection. Be sure to check your Wi-Fi network and if needed, troubleshoot using recommended steps from your internet service provider. If you have already connected to Amazon Alexa, the connection should be reinstated automatically upon network availability.
Off: You'll need to reset your system to get it back into pairing mode. To reset your system, follow the steps outlined in the next section.

How do I reset my system and get back into pairing mode?

If your lights are on, turn them off.
Unplug the AC adapter from the outlet to cut the power.
After a few seconds, plug the AC adapter back into the outlet.
The Wi-Fi light on the control box should now be blinking, indicating that you are in pairing mode.
To finish pairing, follow the steps outlined in "Connecting to Amazon Alexa"

My QR code won't scan. What do I do?

Ensure that your system is in pairing mode then follow the steps outlined in "Connecting to Amazon Alexa". When you reach the screen asking you to locate the 2D barcode, select "Don't Have a Barcode?" and follow the on-screen instructions.

What is the energy consumption of my under cabinet lighting?

The watts used by each light bar is dependent on the light bar's length: a 9" bar uses 4W, an 18" bar uses 5.8W, and a 24" bar uses 7.6W. To track the energy consumption in detail, visit your Energy Dashboard inside the Amazon Alexa app.

What routers are supported?

Our under cabinet lights support routers with WEP, WPA, WPA2 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz. Unfortunately, it does not connect with 5 GHz networks.

How do I erase my Wi-Fi information?

Locate the power and color tuning buttons on your control box. Press and hold the buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds then release. The lights will turn off and the Wi-Fi light will be blinking red, indicating the system is in pairing mode. You now have five minutes to reconnect. You may also remove your credentials by clicking the trash can icon under Settings in the Amazon Alexa app.
